Easter Sunday is April 21, 2019
PinupsPresidential’s #PassionWeek Collection connects global concepts from the Christian Holy Week to governance narratives about justice: identifying and remaining in alignment with our core ethical values. It also relates to ideas about sacred union, #passion and marriage from traditions across the world. The examples here come from our local residential outreach center, PaintersHouse Idyllwild, California U.S.
What is sacred? What is holy? What would our citizen actually, metaphorically or intentionally walk or await down the aisle for? What do we commit to (marriage?) make sacrifices to protect, even die for (our children?) if called by circumstance, duty or destiny?
PassionWeek Idyllwild 2019
Sample Calendar for year one Outreach & #Development
Church Service days are typically Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. The non-religious, civic events can serve as feeders to these but don’t have to- that’s up to God. This is important in the U.S. as we have a clear distinction between church and state. For this #PassionWeek exercise, religious leaders are encouraged to embrace the historical, academic and cultural impacts of Christianity on civilization design as relevant entry points to conversation about #Ethics and #GovernanceStandards in #Technology.
The Psalms of Ascent and Pilgrimage: 2019’s Creative #Colorways Theme featuring Tyrian Purple:
Promote an attainable, guilt-free annual fitness goal: a community walk.
Create a repeatable local music, performance and menu repertoire for related events
Introduce Mind-Body ritual practice as core values reminder.
Support a coordinated #DesignThinking and education framework. Example for 2019: investigate historical #Tyrian Purple for #TopStitch Fashion & Art Studio efforts & funding.
Coordinate paths and stations between Town Hall and churches in town for pilgrimage-style walks. (I have been contemplating the Songs of Ascent since Easter last year as a personal preparation) Relate Forest Service hiking paths along with information about their care.
Palm Sunday: Sunday April 14, 2019
Pine branches instead of palms. (A #LocalFlavor brand opportunity) A choreographed Hosanna performance in town Sunday morning (possibly after Queen of Angels 8 a.m. mass but before most churches 10 a.m. start time- churches may opt to adjust start times accordingly and already have holiday schedules.) For conversation’s sake, if it happens at 9:30 in front of Community Presbyterian, that’s that church’s normal start time, most of the others start at 10. Giveaway ribboned branches for church attenders and town visitors. Allude to Thursday’s bridal themes.
Money Changers: Monday, April 15, 2019 (Tax Deadline Day in the U.S.!)
Without being overtly religious, Money Changers Monday could host a civics conversation about the spiritual consequences of ethical investing and money-management and even direct citizens to financial resources and counseling. Do you put your money where your mouth is? Do our civics arrangements help us do this through ethical sourcing of products and services? How can our communities influence #MaterialsManagement so we can have fun & live collectively with a clear conscience? In a #PinupsPresidential format, we can develop fun stand-up comedy bits about free-range chickens and constant “woke” consumer guilt.

Warriorship vs. Violence: What can we do about Mass Shootings? Annual U.S. Civics Conversation- Tuesday, April 16, 2019
#HitTheDojoBro is PinupsPresidential’s program to promote Law Enforcement and 1st Responder themes to encourage physical fitness, mindful readiness and honorable warriorship. Have you ever played the “Fall Guy,” been treated unfairly or taken the blame for something you didn’t do? Isn’t that what FireFighters do when they die for an arsonist’s crime? Were you ever let down by someone you thought had your back? Can you direct that anger productively or does it begin to erode your sense of well-being? Does a disappointment in marriage erupt into domestic violence or into positive action and #designthinking for environmental and behavioral change? Law Enforcement also embodies Christ when they die to protect us from violence. Instead of setting off a flurry of tweets after a mass shooting, and wondering about “Too Soon” to discuss issues, let’s make this an annual civics moment to discuss the psychological foundations of human violence and use #design to avoid breeding criminal behaviors.
Relate Culture: Did you know? This is a civics example for why Christians look religiously to a beaten and humiliated man on a cross. Think about Jesus as an information sciences aggregate of all the wrong human beings have committed against one another. Then remember all the people who have chosen to do the right thing (per their understanding in time and place- introduce the idea of dynamic context and the need for connecting interpretive #wisdom in #leadership by #design in our #technology era) even when doing the wrong thing would have been easier, faster or cheaper.
The story of Jesus at the hands of government gone wrong, compromised and unjust is, obviously, at the core our Christian faith’s indebtedness to the Savior and reason for our eternal gratitude and joy. Beyond the world of Christian believers, however, #PassionWeek is also a culturally-enduring cautionary tale about civics and ethical governance: why we need to understand the values upon which organized, humane and flourishing civilization is built and how we need to periodically review and stay in alignment with those values in order for life-sustaining, ethical governing systems to survive.

Rest- Wednesday, April 17, 2019
There are many great sermon series and business coaching talks about busyness. Busyness vs. productivity. Identifying and resting in one’s life calling produces inner peace.
Wednesday’s #PassionWeek gathering can become an interfaith and scientific opportunity to discuss similar teachings and human modalities from various #MeltingPot traditions (like Dharma) to listen for one’s own or God’s voice: journaling, reading scripture or inspirational materials, yoga, meditation, solitude, contemplation, mindfulmaking: art, design, crafting and music.
Could we imagine eventually setting aside #PassionWeek in the U.S. to actually practice these modalities annually, in community, with support and education, in order to fuel the rest of the year with vigor, happiness and productivity? Rest informs innovation.
Rest as imperative to human happiness- happy, well-rested citizens commit fewer crimes/errors and sins against one another. Rest facilitates peacemaking between peoples.
How many daily/weekly routines and technology systems would have to reorganize so our Optimized Citizen can experience 8 hours of restful sleep every night? This single #civics #exercise could transform our commute, the way we work and the projects we work on, worry about finances, health or relationships, nutrition, exercise and nourishing #experience #design in our communities. In a neurally-connected biotechnology age, being a well-rested citizen may become a primary duty and responsibility not an afterthought.
Dinner Party- Thursday, April 18, 2019
Invite friends from Temple Har Shalom to guide us through aspects of an authentic Jewish Passover meal (history, culture, religious studies). Offer these foods alongside others.
Connect the ideas about this banquet feast to a wedding feast (religious studies, destination wedding). Create a lavish dinner party environment as a civics exercise, useful for a variety of event types. Introduce the concept of the Bride of Christ. What attributes did Christ see in humanity--our best, aspirational selves being the best people we can be by design--that made Him pop the question? As His Church, we are symbolically the woman He would die for. (Actually, if you are a Christian believer.)
How to give a toast (#SocialGraces) Indulge in this romance annually to teach what actual wedding day festivities might or should represent. Stage the whole shebang with Quinceanera or bridal formal to avoid future “bridezilla” or falling in love with the wedding, not the marriage itself issues. Related InterFaith messaging.
#ChambreDuCommerce This template feast can be referenced by local vendors for rehearsal or wedding reception dinners: a time to play with coordinated ideas in community prior to being hired for commercial gigs. Developing flexible, trained labor pools that can expand and contract as needed.
Walk the Loop- Friday, April 19, 2019
Complete the entire South & North Circle wearing #Tyrian purples (everybody wear purple- dye lots of tyrian purples varied back in the day, so various shades will be easy to pull off and actually be quite accurate!) Props can include crowns of thorns, crosses. Pushing or pulling wheelchairs or decorated kids wagons can be both a fun fitness challenge for teams as well as a reference to “take up your cross.” Depending on activity, people can be in costume or sportswear.
The Songs of Ascent were sung on the journey to Jerusalem- a bit like song classics for scouting (I’ve got something in my pocket) or military marching (left right left)- the point of these Psalms is to pragmatically remind pilgrims of core attributes about God’s character and faithfulness. With that in mind, considering weaving School House Rock “We the People” as core #BrandUSA values reminder. Complete the walk at Town Hall or center park flagpole for light stretching. Church-goers can attend Good Friday services at their home churches before or after.
Movie Night Option: Jesus Christ Superstar with John Legend
(Will be adding suggested media lists for #PassionWeek soon. Stay tuned for updates.)
People needs food, clothing, shelter, healthcare and sanitation, whether in campout/emergency response or in luxury resort, big game/concert arena mode.
Hope by Design: Saturday
Working the #practice when you think all is lost. (Reference Wednesday’s topics: imagine devoting yourself to your practice during a time when you can not see the benefit clearly or when you are discouraged)
In the #PassionWeek story, Jesus died on Friday, just before the Jewish Sabbath where all work stopped by law. Mary didn’t discover Christ had risen until Sunday morning! She honored the Sabbath and waited those excruciating hours from Friday sundown until Sunday morning to attend to her beloved Hope’s funerary arrangements. When she arrived at the tomb, she thought his body had been stolen only to realize the person she was speaking to (and had been mourning for) was actually Jesus himself: Christ risen from the dead.
Science and Spirituality: In an information age where we can imagine an electrical network, like the human brain, being able to “back up” to a cloud server, can we understand global spiritual practices relating to transcendence or transfiguration in a new way? How do 1st responders and ER doctors “reanimate” the body?
Architect and designer Mies Van der Rohe is often credited with saying “God is in the details.” Sometimes we engage in the behaviors that make us wonderful people on our own strength; when we lack strength, relying on the rituals and practices we’ve designed in advance can save us from emotional overwhelm.
Get on the yoga mat today. Just get on the mat or put on your running shoes without any other agenda. Abide in your studio or office space without committing to accomplishing anything. Admire the formatting that surrounds what you do, not just the stuff you get done.
Consider keeping #CivicSabbath like the disciples did. PinupsPresidential calls our weekly rest practice #FridayChill.
The Easter Egg hunt is usually Saturday in Idyllwild.
Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019
Featuring #TopStitch fashion
2019 may be too early, but my vision for the #PassionWeek collection is to create, collect and make available Easter dresses, suits and #PleinAir ensembles, in a variety of sizes for rental enjoyment. Items can be picked up or delivered, then collected for professional laundering, upgrades and storage. Maybe we simply do Ties in 2019 as our starting point. Over time, our #CivicArt #collections of #Passion #Fashion will improve and be able to accommodate #DestinationWedding needs (flower girls, bridesmaids, ring bearers and groomsmen.)
Troupe standards for related #entertainment needs can provide ongoing #education and #livelihood opportunities for local performers and related culinary from Idyllwild restaurants can inform various event types and interweave #training in anticipation having qualified labor on call.
Easter 21, 2019 Colorways Updates
#DesignThinking for the #CitizenExperience
Functionally, #PassionWeek is marked by a number of significant events as wedding weeks usually are- more and less formal. Bride of Christ bridal for altar, decor, fashion and costuming is great #practice for all of our #studio #disciplines including #painting #topstitch #drawing #stir food. Thinking through a week of events is great for #placemaking- local dressing, event decor, destination, #hospitality design. At some point, props & garments will become pretty enough for an actual wedding- financial models can vary for this, our desire is for technologies to eventually handle our bookings so our focus remains on improving the collections year after year.
Easter Costuming translates easily into #PaintersHouse #PleinAir Groomsmen/bridespeople
#PinupsPresidential "It's Showtime!" #practice: actually orchestrating a week of events every Easter with the collection pieces in whatever state they're in creates #wayfinder paths for #studio professionals to emerge.
