basic human survival pod: Healthcare
We want Patient Advocacy & Administrative Streamlining to Protect & Enhance quality of life. The School Nurse meets Holistic Wellness Center, Compounding pharmacy & Edible Garden
How are you today, ____? Remember that show Cheers? Where everybody knows your name? It was a bar, and while not necessarily the most appropriate choice to illustrate wellness, especially considering our varied age groups, it makes for a good example because of the sense of community it illustrates.
To feel good (one of our indicators of health), people were bellying up to the bar (not exactly the picture that comes to mind for health & wellness) for community & conversation: someone who cared to ask, “How are you?"
So let's think: something like a Neighborhood Nurses Office or Doc-In-The-Box but with beautiful decor like a spa that serves as a center patient advocacy. Basic med services offered. Referrals made for specialized treatments, per current practices, to get started.
How we make change happen: Local Wishing Well #Wayfinders will aggregate data re: patients various healthcare plans mapped to look for efficiencies and opportunities. Individual patient information is still private: information between the patient and local #WishingWell provider will meet current standards. The local Wishing Well will share aggregated information about their patients' current coverage plans & the services they offer most frequently to their patient population. They will share % from our #AgeGroups so that initiatives targeting those groups' needs can be designed & deployed. #WishingWells across the nation will share their findings about shared specific issues, holes in coverage, unused coverage that their groups don't need to be paying for.
Wishing Well patient advocates will contact providers, insurance carriers & to help them obtain the services they need for the best prices as we begin to transform our systems.
Wishing Well locations or location clusters will also feature compounding pharmacies, physical therapy, mind/body wellness & self development classes, bodywork, and #EdibleGarden. As medicine becomes more targeted to our unique makeups, providing custom foods, exercise with #LocalFlavor represents a tremendous growth & transformation opportunity. #Stir pods can pick up special plant ingredients to add to beverages & foods per tracked data on the bugs going around.
Each year, each patient has an opportunity to review their life plan with a Wishing Well provider.
Once a year, citizens will be able to check in to a #HealthcareHospitality retreat for a full medical check up, attend mind/body wellness & cooking classes, receive and one-on-one evaluation that includes a coaching review using the information from an individual's #BeliefID wayfinder dashboard (the information the patient wishes to share): are you happy? Excited & engaged with your life? Relationships? Where would you like to be in one year's time?
Specialized #HealthcareHospitality initiatives can be offered across properties & focus on interests like prenatal, cancer survival, mommy and me, healthy aging, sexual orientation, cultural group identification.
The #HealthcareHospitality results are transferred to the patient's local #WishingWell for followup.
*** The weeklong retreat was #Inspiredby my brief marketing director experience at the Chopra Center: modeled after their Perfect Health week. The Chopra Center and other retreat places like Dr. Weil, Kripalu etc. connect "Western" medical practices with "Alternative" therapies like ayruveda, yoga and massage, but they can be very expensive.
The repeated theme with #AVA2016 is that with technology, we can now connect areas that in our minds exist in different categories: government agencies are different than education are different than for profit/non profit etc. But a patient is a patient. What makes the #HXD so confusing and often unsatisfying is that we as individuals are responsible for "connecting the dots" unless we have enough money to hire someone to help. The health of an individual connects mental and emotional wellness, a sense of life purpose in one's work, a sense of community & healthy relationships, physical activity, sex, nutrition AND medical interventions and medicines. Without a holistic approach to nurturing happy healthy people, it is unlikely that we are going to have meaningful #SocialChange. We need happy, healthy people deployed in every sector: it's as important to our success in engineering, finance, and agriculture as it is perceived in our health & fitness categories. Balanced people are much more likely to have productive, profitable and innovative exchanges & interact in intelligent, sustainable ways with our environment.
